Diabetes & Fitness Vlog?

Hey - I am new to this whole website and have been actively working to gain muscle over the past few months. A bit about me, I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 18 years, been on an insulin pump for 16, currently 22 years old. I work full time, and have been struggling to maintain my target range. This past year I’ve put on around 14lbs, but I’m also the strongest I’ve ever been. I’m following a fitness program called Crush60 that I love - but I often find that it’s hard to maintain the workouts/diabetes and not feel alone!

I have been thinking about creating a Vlog focused on diabetes and fitness, and was wondering if you guys had any input on that? I’ve looked on youtube for similar topics, and have come up pretty short! I really want more resources out there in terms of connecting with people, and just wanted other diabetics opinions.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to check out the Facebook group “Type 1 Diabetic Athletes”. There are a lot of bodybuilding and fitness program followers there you can interact with.

And if you don’t already have it, the “Diabetic Athlete’s Handbook” by Sheri Colberg is a great book to have on hand.

Hi there. I think a vlog is a great idea. Our family has been vlogging on YouTube for four years and we’ve built an amazing community (many of whom are Type 1). YouTube can be a phenomenal platform to connect with others and help educate them.

We have people reach out to us every day from all over the world because of the vlog.

What you are describing could be a phenomenal resource. Check out DiabeticDanica as an example.

Go for it!

Thank you! I definitely have the fire in my belly to start the vlog - and will be researching more and hopefully will have one up by the end of the month.

Thank you again.

That’s awesome! It’s a great idea, very unique.

You’re definitely not alone! Before I started working full-time/after university, I was at the gym 4-5 times a week doing the same as you-trying to build muscle mass! Now I’m more around 3 times a week. It’s tricky when you combine it with managing diabetes but you just have to find a consistent workout regimen and adjust your preparation (basal and snacking) based on that. I’m 24 years old and have been diabetic for 12+ years (peanuts compared to you!)

Check, check and check again to really understand your body throughout your workout. That’s the best advice I can give you.

The book that @angivan mentioned is amazing! I can vouch for that too. Definitely worth the look-through.

Keep us posted on that blog!

hey. i have been wanting to ask you people about any book which is based on diet or how much diabetics should eat. i have been suffering with the fluctuations lately and unable to keep my sugar in control. if you know any book, let me know.
