I have been a T1 diabetic for ten years now. I am 20 years old and although I am not looking to have kids now, I probably will within the next five years. I was wondering what the chances are that my kids will also have diabetes, and what the statistics are from anyone who has diabetes with kids.
If you do a search within the forums, you'll find many threads that have already discussed this topic. Here are a few:
Also, here is the statistical information on the ADA's website. http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/genetics-of-diabetes.html
Hope this helps!
Hi Brittanym, I was diagnosed at 4 and I was 28 with my first and 29 1/2 with my second. They are 30 and 32 now with two grandchildren for my oldest (daughter). My brother also was diagnosed at 13. He has two boys similar ages without D. I think everyone is different. (There will be times that you can't stop your child from running into the street also.)
