It’s common knowledge covid vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe illness and death, not getting infected period w/ milder/less severe cases. Also, variants emerge which developed vaccines can be less robust against. Same with flu vaccine–you can get the vaccine, and still get the flu, b/c it’s not 100% effective.
