What is everyone else doing to raise awareness? I wrote an article in the paper a couple summers ago which got me quite a bit of feedback! This month, however, I am dedicated to wearing my pump outside of my jeans pocket when in public. This way, anyone who notices will either be reminded of Diabetes or wonder what it is and ask me so I inform them about Diabetes and how it is becoming a majorly common, serious disease... And needs a cure!
In America, a person is diagnosed with Diabetes every 20 seconds on average.
An estimated amount of people in the world living with diabetes in this year is about 285 million.
21 million Americans alone have diabetes. 6 million have it and do not know it yet.
If left untreated, diabetes can lead to stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and even death. 6 million people could die because diabetes affected one or more of their systems....
My own personal fact: I have yet to meet someone who does NOT know someone with diabetes. Every person I've ever talked to has diabetes or knows someone who has it.
There are many reasons to find a cure. There are plenty of serious diseases out there taking lives...and diabetes has become one of them. Let's find a cure now! Spread awareness. One step to a cure starts TODAY!
