T1D Clinical Trials

Hey everyone - I’ve been living with T1D for over 40 years, and just started on my 4th diabetes clinical trial! I participate in them as my ultimate form of advocacy.

I also work for a small non-profit that educates the public on what’s involved with a trial, who is involved, and safeguards in place. Kind of cool to be able to put to work my passion!

Also wanted to share that we have a webinar coming up (it’s free!) on this topic, and it includes a T1D panelist sharing her experiences! if interested, here’s the info: AWARE for All - Midwest Virtual Health Event 2021 Registration, Thu, Jul 22, 2021 at 4:30 PM | Eventbrite

if you hvae any questions about being in a trial, or how to find one, let me know! Happy to share!

I’ve never heard of any clinical trials but I’d love to find out about one and what it is precisely.

There are many clinical trials for all different medical conditions!
I highly recommend attending the webinar I posted - it will give you a lot of information about all the things involved, and the panel consists of 6 people sharing their experiences.

Any easy way to find diabetes trials is the JDRF trial finder: https://antidote.me/

@dinobetic617 Welcome Phyllis to the JDRF TypeOneNation Forum! I hope that you will continue exploring the many postings here and offer your experience of living so many years with Autoimmune Diabetes.

Thank you for helping members here to become aware of the many opportunities to volunteer for medical trials and discover the many benefits achieved. Like you, I have participated in many diabetes trials and experiments while living with diabetes for 65 years. My first “diabetes” trial began in 1966 when I volunteered to have a LASER Beam aimed into my head hoping for a solution for Retinopathy. This was followed in the early 1970s as part of the project developing what later became the HbA1c laboratory testing; followed by personal experimenting in the 1970s [before digital BG Meters] of what is now called MDI. And the list goes on.

Keep up your good work!

Hi Alexa @arodric5002 , there are quite a few trials going on right now for diabetes; I see notifications, or get invitations at least weekly. You can often run into different diabetes trials in the following places:

Also, companies like Dexcom, Tandem, Medtronic, Insulet [OmniPod] will from time to time be looking for people with diabetes participate in trials needed to get approval from the FDA for new pumps, CGM and, other products.
