My son was newly diagnosed when his elementary school used a substitute nurse for the day. His blood sugar dropped after recess and he was escorted to the office to see her. She pulled some of his information sheets out of his file to follow his plan for low blood sugar. In the meantime the secretary called me to let me know that he was being taken care of by the nurse. This was new for us so I thought I would go in to see if his blood sugar was coming up. His blood sugar definitely was coming up.....She gave him everything on the list: JUICE, GLUCOSE TABS, and REGULAR SODA!!!! Thank goodness my son learned how to treat himself soon after!!!!! I did appreciate the school staff (good and bad) we seem to always learn something from them!!!!
