As happy as we hopefully are with our medical devices, once we start using them we may find some questions we wish we had asked before committing. I thought it might be helpful to post them, to help others who are considering using them.

The infusion set I chose is hard to insert. I wish I had asked if there were samples to try before I placed my first order.

I wish I had known how to take a pump break, or what to do if my pump malfunctions and my doctor’s office is closed.

I wish I had asked If I could take a break from my CGM/loop system.

I wish I had asked for a prescription for pens to keep as a backup.

I wish I had asked, what is the commitment time for my pump? Am I stuck for ## years is it doesn’t work for me?

I wish I had asked How do you charge it and how long does it take? Can I use my car charger or a portable battery?

I wish I had asked What do you do when you play sports? How do you protect the device, and keep it from falling off?

I wish I had asked How long does it take to feed the pump? Can I do it in advance?

I use a little/a lot of insulin. What’s the minimum/maximum you can fill?

I wish I had asked How often do you have to feed your pump?

I wish I had asked What model phones are compatible with the device? What do I do if a phone update causes it to stop working? Is there a separate controller, and is it included in the kit or do I have to order it separately?

I discovered I’m allergic to the adhesive - I wish I had asked are there any products that can help? If I can’t find anything that works, am I stuck with the device?
